These words saved me during the global financial crisis

I was cleaning out my drawers the other week and I found my old notebook from 2009.

At that time, I had just lost my corporate IT job. The downturn had arrived and there was so much uncertainty everywhere.

In the midst of all that, I still had this lingering dream to start my cupcake business.

In that notebook, I scribbled out a vision and a business plan.

I remember thinking - dreaming isn't enough, I need to put it down on paper. As I scribbled my ideas onto paper, it was a magical moment, I can still remember it so clearly. It was a manifestation of sorts, I was creating my new reality.

At the back of the notebook, I wrote a heading "Quotes to remember". When I started to feel fear, uncertainty or frustration I would flip to the back of the book and read these quotes.

"If matters go badly now, they will not always be so" - Horace

"Everything's ok in the end, if it isn't it's not the end" - Unknown

"I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another set forward" - Thomas Edison

These words saved me. They saved me because I no longer wanted to go back to my old life and the only way was forward. It's still a good reminder to this day.

Do you have quotes that have pulled you through some tough times? I'd love to hear them, hit reply x
