Why feeling proud of yourself will change your life
“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” – Golda Meir.
When was the last time you felt proud of yourself?
I mean, a really big pat on your back proud of yourself?
We had a fascinating League virtual event last night with Hacia Atherton. 3 years ago she was in a riding accident and her back and pelvis got crushed under a 600kg horse.
Most days she wakes up experiencing pain and some days, if she can manage to get out of bed, that's a great day. Other days, she's able to walk around the block. Whatever she is able to achieve that day - she acknowledges it and celebrates it.
Hacia, in the initial stages of recovery after the accident, made a decision that she was going to live her life, not just survive it.
When she shared her seemingly simple, yet powerful technique she uses to overcome adversity - I felt compelled to share it.
Who also feels that the act of "being proud of yourself" doesn’t come naturally to them? 🙋🏻♀️
It’s almost as if we can’t be proud of ourselves until we get a defining moment of being on top of that hill. Winning a big award. Getting a fancier title. Ticking off a huge goal.
You know what? It doesn’t have to be that way.
We can give ourselves permission to be proud of ourselves for the smallest things, right now.
Having strong self-compassion is the key to being happier, healthier and more fulfilled life. Yep there’s been studies on it but why not try it.
