Can one person make a difference?
There's no point in doing this.
No one cares.
You can't possibly make a difference.
It's time to give up...
With all that is happening in the world, the devastation, the injustice, the way we’re treating the sacred land we live on - it’s hard to see whether the actions we take as an individual can actually make a real difference.
Our attempts may seem futile at times.
How can one person possibly make a difference?
It's just so much easier to give up and give in.
Whenever I feel these apathetic thoughts creeping up on me and feeling as though I should just give up on taking action because changing the world is too hard, I read the story below. It reminds me that with every intention, every thought, every action - we have the power to make a difference.

The past month has been absolutely devastating for Australia. This beautiful country is being ravaged by the most harrowing bushfire season the country has ever seen. However, out of tragedy and heartbreak - the silver lining has been seeing communities and individuals coming together to assist and provide much needed relief to those that have suffered tremendously.
The League HQ team will be joining the global Relief Run which is a virtual 5km or 21.1km run on 18th & 19th Jan 2020. Join us by signing up here.

THE STORY OF THE DANCING GIRL
Once upon a time, there was an old lady who used to go to the ocean to do her writing. She had a habit of walking on the beach before she starts her day.
As she was walking along the shore one morning, she looked further down the beach and saw a little human figure moving like a dancer. She smiled to herself at the thought of how joyful this sight was and walked faster to catch up to the moving figure.
As she got closer, she noticed that the figure was that of a young girl and that what she was doing was not dancing at all. The young girl was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
She came closer still and called out ‘Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?’
The young girl paused, looked up, and replied ‘Throwing starfish into the ocean.’
‘I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?’ asked the somewhat startled wise lady.
To this, the young girl replied, ‘The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die!’, as she picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean.
Upon hearing this, the wise lady commented, ‘But, young lady, do you not realise that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile. You can’t possibly make a difference!’
At this, the young girl bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, she said, ‘It made a difference for that one.’

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any”.
We all have the power to make a difference. No matter how small you think your actions are, it matters because you believe in it. We all need to keep going, to pour positivity in this world because the world needs it. So don't give in.
